Why Does Hair Turn Gray?

With my current product launch in the health and beauty industry focused on haircare, I often look for articles or news stories that are relevant to the industry. Women tend to stress a lot over their hair, if it isn't style it is color. In efforts to stay young, or even try to look our age, many of us color frequently as to not expose our roots. Often I wonder, when will I just let things go naturally and how long will the transition be. Will I turn gray, silver, or white?

Why does hair turn gray anyway?

On the website: wisegeek.com a report about why hair turns gray caught my eye and here is an excerpt from their story.

Hair turns gray as we age because the follicles at the base
of the hair shaft cease to produce
melanin. Each follicle contains a finite number of pigment cells. These pigment cells produce melanin, a chemical that gives the hair shaft (the visible strands) its color (black, brown, blonde, red, and all shades in between.) The darkness or lightness of your hair depends on how much melanin each strand contains. Melanin is the same pigment that makes
skin tan upon exposure to the sun.

Inventor's Network

As an inventor of the Style ‘n Wrap “™” and a new venture business owner, I believe in networking. Because I have a strong business background I was not so concerned about running my business, but I did have lots of questions regarding the "innovation" side of my business. In the process of becoming familiar with patents, trademarks and copyrights, I purchased several reference guides and located the U.S.P.T.O. (United States Patent and Trademark Office) website. While on this website,I noticed information about inventor's groups and found that there was an inventor's group very close to me.

The Muskegon Inventor's Network, a member of the United Inventors Association holds monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of the month (except December). Meetings are held at the new Chamber of Commerce building located in downtown Muskegon. This group provides a great opportunity for networking and focuses on expanding the knowledge of its members. The first meeting is free. Annual membership costs $40.00 and are due at the second meeting.

Protecting your idea is always foremost in the thoughts of those running the meetings, so you are strongly encouraged to take the appropriate steps to protect your innovation before openly discussing it when networking. Product Reviews are available to members for $10.00 and non-disclosure documents are signed by those providing product reviews. Any information that is shared during these review sessions belong to inventor.

A 2009 schedule is available on their website:

Who says "There's no such thing as a free lunch?" We in West Michigan are fortunate to have the support of the Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center at Grand Valley State University (GVSU) who provides "FREE" Seminars to business owners.

The Michigan Small Businesss and Technology Development Center is located at the GVSU downtown location on Fulton Street in Grand Rapids and is the state headquarters. There mission statement indicates that they provide counseling, training, research and advocacy for business in the state of Michigan.

Below is a link to their March 2009 schedule.

Introduction

In September 2007 Geneva Girls Designs, LLC was formed with a simple idea

Creating innovative multi-functional products for busy multi-faceted women /children.

The mission was to create products that would make our lives easier.

After filing a provisional patent application, the Style 'n Wrap, a heat-resistant hairstyling tool organizer was introduced to the market in January 2008. This product began to gain the attention of women in the marketplace as a practical product for women on the go. One by one these products were made and sold. In late 2008, a Utility patent was filed, so under "patent pending" status, we have been taking steps to launch this product to a larger market. Follow with us on our journey as we work toward building our brand in the marketplace.

The Style 'n Wrap is our primary product and the one that is currently featured in our website (http://www.genevagirlsdesigns.com/). In addition to the Style 'n Wrap, we have introduced other products into the market through two online venues:

At the current time all of our products are custom made by hand. We offer two varieties of tote bags (1) the Geneva Girls Photo Tote Bag and (2) Tiny Totes for Tots. We also have one-of-a-kind covered journals, doggie bags, backpacks, purses, and quilted checkbook covers. You may find some if not all of these products online. As we introduce new products, we will highlight them here first.

We also welcome custom orders, so if you have an idea of what you want please let us know.
